Sandsation is a festival which does not rely on music, comedy or arts BUT in fact evolves around sand. Sand sculptures are 
the basis of this festival which takes place over the course of 3 months each summer in Berlin.

Recognising the cultural and ethnic diversity of modern Berlin, there is the Karneval der kulturen which is the carnival of cultures where people dress up and parade through the streets wearing traditional costumes from their home countries and play music that reflects their history and culture. To complement the parades there is a market where people can buy ethnic goods and taste a great variety of foods.
Another popular event is the Pumpkins On Petunias festival and is worth considering if you visit the city.
